It has come to my attention that I should clarify when I say I’m spending time on the computer answering emails and setting up interviews and reading stuff it sounds like I’m just dicking around, and sometimes I am, but mostly that’s all some variation of My Job. Brainstorming ideas, emailing pitches, responding to follow-up questions, reading some report online for background, reading some other random thing to see if there are any good stories out of it. Plus some screwing around. Basically the same stuff I’d do in an office.
8:07 a.m. Alarm goes off, throw on workout clothes.
8:19 a.m. Drive, eat morning chocolate mint Clif bar.
8:37 a.m. Walk into Crossfit class. Deadlifts, bench, push-ups, weird tricep thing, etc.
9:25 a.m. Back in car, drive home.
9:43 a.m. Get home, take out recycling, feed cats, rinse off and change clothes, make some breakfast.
10:10 a.m. Sit down at computer with oatmeal & Chobani yogurt with nut mix. Go through social and email, answer a few team and work things. Spend a lot — like a LOT — of time looking into the history of female athletes and hair and fashion historians. Look at the radio story files too.
12:48 p.m. Eyes glazing over. Time for lunch. Eat some Rustic Bakery crackers and a slice of cheese. Warm up a Trader Joe’s palak paneer frozen meal, dump on top of bed of lettuce and top with avocado — pretty standard for me, but was feeling heavy with a hard run coming in the evening, didn’t finish. Slack with radio editor while eating about why Adobe Cloud isn’t collaborating and will send her .mp3.
1:10 p.m. Sit down with Audition and pull the cuts for the newest version of podcast/radio story.
2:00 p.m. Call with a couple of triathlon retailers to talk about sustainable business models for a story.
2:28 p.m. Off the phone, send note to radio editor and look at her edits so far. Play with cats because Snoop keeps bringing me his mouse to throw.
2:44 p.m. Skype with Sara to brainstorm about podcast and newsletter.
3:50 p.m. Off and talk with editor about finishing up audio tomorrow. Eat a Clif chocolate chip Z-bar and a small bowl of applesauce.
4:05 p.m. Send notes/outline about women & hair and answer a couple of emails. Try to fix Garmin computer from yesterday and it seems like it’s working??
4:35 p.m. Get ready to run. Get mail — new goggles came and cat food. Get sidetracked trying to Furinate Tupac.
5:02 p.m. In car to JCC. Do social promo video for upcoming Escape Surf City race outside JCC.
5:20 p.m. On treadmill. Hour run with 30 x 30″ FAST, 30″ off. It’s a standard and not awful, but the last 10′ at tempo is hard. And the Indian food isn’t sitting awesome.
6:20 p.m. Off treadmill, stretch a little.
6:28 p.m. In car, drive home, talk to mom on phone.
6:38 p.m. Home, finish talking to mom.
7:05 p.m. Let Snoop go outside, because he’s mad Pac got to go outside, but have to go with him. They run around, but then start to chase each other around the bushes on the side of the house. Eventually I have to crawl into a bush to pull Snoop out, so I can go back inside.
7:28 p.m. Eat half a Clif bar and finally get in shower, with Snoop in bathroom with me so he’ll stop crying. Steve gets home and gets Pac to come in. Put on some clean shorts and tanktop.
7:52 p.m. Waiting for Steve so we can go get food. Drink an El Sully and run through emails, log workout, look at mail newsletter system options, and job boards.
8:12 p.m. Drive down to Panera to grab some food. Have a steak-cheddar panini and a chicken-apple salad and half a chocolate chip cookie.
9:05 p.m. Home, play with cats.
9:20 p.m. Sit down at computer, finish reading a couple of random things, and then spend some time listening to ambient street sound tracks for radio story to see what will work, pull potential cuts.
10:00 p.m. Done with whatever I can do with the audio. Blog, mess around some.
10:25 p.m. Get ready for bed. Empty boys litter, feed them. Waiting for Steve.
11:00 p.m. In bed.
11:25 p.m. Lights out. Definitely do not fall asleep for awhile.
