While I was not really looking at my computer much for a week in Florida, a bunch of things happened in the sports I care about. One of which was that a new attempt at a pro triathlete union (really, legally, an association) was launched. The athletes DO need some kind of organized power and the only way you’re going to get that is to have big names on board with organizing, and mandatory type membership is generally a sort of prerequisite to establishing any kind of union power base. But, yeah, there are some questions obviously about where this is going and if it’ll work. This, I think, most clearly lined out those problems — though there are a lot of people saying a lot of perfectly smart and well-thought-out things on the subject.
